Energy & power

Power plants operate as tightly connected systems — generation, electrical protection, cooling, fuel handling, water treatment, automation and maintenance planning all have to move together.

Urrum supports energy and power teams by securing equipment, spares and technical services that fit the installed asset, the outage plan and the operating on-site conditions. The focus is on practical readiness: correct ratings, compatible components, validated alternatives, test evidence, supplier capability and delivery timing aligned with the plant’s maintenance and restart sequence.

Key pocurement challenges

Asset reliability and uptime exposure

Power assets require high availability across generation, transmission, distribution and industrial energy systems. A delayed transformer component, incorrect relay, unavailable motor, missing pump spare, failed control module or late service team can affect asset reliability, maintenance execution or network continuity. Procurement must control criticality, lead time, compatibility and supplier response before a purchasing gap becomes operational exposure.

Electrical rating and system compatibility

Switchgear, transformers, protection relays, MCCs, VFDs, cables, panels, UPS systems and control cabinets must match voltage, rating, fault level, protection logic, communication protocol and site configuration. A near-equivalent item can still create installation issues, commissioning delays or reliability exposure.

Long-lead critical equipment

Transformers, switchgear, generators, turbines, boilers, large motors, control systems, UPS systems, protection panels and engineered packages often depend on manufacturing capacity, factory allocation, approval cycles and testing milestones. Late procurement engagement can affect project schedules, outage readiness, energisation dates and asset replacement planning.

Outage and shutdown planning

Planned outages require spare parts, consumables, tools, lifting equipment, service technicians, OEM attendance, test equipment and documentation to be ready before intervention starts. Any missing item can extend downtime, disrupt restart planning or increase emergency sourcing costs.

Protection, automation and control system continuity

Energy and power assets rely on protection relays, PLCs, SCADA components, sensors, transmitters, meters, control cards, communication modules and monitoring systems. Procurement must manage model references, firmware, configuration, signal type, protocol, calibration and compatibility with existing systems. Small control-system mismatches can create large commissioning or operational constraints.

Compliance, testing and acceptance documentation

Power equipment often requires FAT reports, type tests, routine test reports, calibration certificates, conformity documents, drawings, manuals, protection settings, inspection records and commissioning files. Equipment may be physically delivered but not accepted, energized or handed over if documentation is incomplete or inconsistent.

Heavy logistics and site constraints

Transformers, generators, turbines, switchgear, control panels and large mechanical packages may involve oversized cargo, special packing, lifting plans, route surveys, customs clearance, port handling, inland transport, storage conditions and restricted site access. Procurement must maintain visibility from supplier release to final installation point.
